South America
South America continues on our journey to fulfill the terms of the Great Commission through the values of Vision 2020. Recently we celebrated our third International Leadership Conference (CIL 2013) in the city of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Included among those in attendance were about 400 key leaders participating in conferences during the day and over 600 who attended in the evening general sessions.
We were witnesses to the anointing of God ministering through invited guest speakers including Mario Vega, pastor of a local congregation in El Salvador of more than 120,000 members, and Esteban Voth, Old Testament scholar born in Argentina and director of indigenous translation for the United Bible Societies. Fabriana Mazewisch, also a guest speaker, ministered to the women in leadership at a special event led by Hanny Vidal.
We were honored with the presence of five of our seven serving general presbyters: Clayton Endecott, Sam Clements, 
Clayton Martin, and Ben Feliz alongside Gabriel Vidal, General Presbyter for South America. The conference also was blessed by the ministry of Trevor Reid, John and Cathy Payne, David Bryan, Hector Ortiz, Kirk and Sarah Rising, and Harelyn Rodriguez, most of whom work and minister from the International Offices. We were especially glad to have all but one of our national overseers representing South America in attendance.
During the conference, we discussed some of the challenges that are relevant to the needs of our continent including a comparison of the prophets of Israel with the so-called prophets of today; mentoring in the context of the responsibilities of the church with respect to the growth of the mega cities; the dynamics of ministry in a postmodern society; and other important issues specific to the South American culture. Finally, in an unprecedented move, Bishop Vidal appointed Bishop Rafael Alvino, current national overseer of Peru, to serve as the first Continental Harvest Director of South America. His responsibilities will concentrate on leading church planting efforts in South America. We are grateful to our Lord and Redeemer for His constant presence and help in South America.
